O renomado comunicador baiano, Raimundo Varela Freire Júnior, carinhosamente conhecido como Varela, faleceu na madrugada desta quinta-feira, aos 75 anos, em Salvador. A causa de seu falecimento ainda não foi revelada, deixando seus admiradores consternados.
Varela desempenhou um papel fundamental na cena da comunicação na Bahia, com uma longa e ilustre trajetória tanto no rádio quanto na televisão. Ele cativou o público através de sua atuação na TV Itapoan, que é afiliada da TV Record na Bahia, na TV Bandeirantes e na Rádio Sociedade.
Segundo informações de seu filho, Gel Varela, o comunicador estava sob cuidados médicos em uma clínica no bairro de Nazaré desde o dia 23 de agosto. Sua saúde já enfrentava desafios desde o início da pandemia da Covid-19.
Nascido em Itabuna, no sul da Bahia, Raimundo Varela Freire Júnior mudou-se para Salvador ainda criança e cresceu no bairro de Periperi, no subúrbio da cidade. Antes de se destacar na comunicação, ele trabalhou como taxista e em uma fábrica de cimento no Centro Industrial de Aratu (CIA). Além disso, teve uma participação significativa como jogador e diretor de um clube social na região da Cidade Baixa.
O velório de Varela ocorrerá no Cemitério Jardim da Saudade, em Salvador, a partir das 13h, com a cerimônia de cremação marcada para as 16h, no mesmo local.
No desfile do 7 de setembro em Salvador, o prefeito Bruno Reis e o governador Jerônimo Rodrigues prestaram homenagens ao apresentador, lamentando profundamente sua partida.
Jerônimo Rodrigues expressou: “A Bahia se entristece com a perda de um profissional da comunicação que contribuiu imensamente para o desenvolvimento do estado.” Enquanto Bruno Reis ressaltou: “Raimundo Varela foi uma das maiores referências da comunicação na Bahia. Sua capacidade de transmitir notícias de maneira simples e direta impactou positivamente muitas pessoas. Seu estilo questionador e sua proximidade com o povo transformaram a forma de fazer rádio e TV. Nossas condolências aos familiares e amigos nesse momento de luto.”
